Structural features of butterfly valve

(1) The structure is simple and the size is small. Due to its compact structure, short length, small volume and light weight, it is suitable for large caliber.

(2) When the valve seat is open, the effective flow area of the valve seat channel is large, so the fluid resistance is small.

(3) It is easy to open and close quickly, and has good adjustment performance. The butterfly plate rotates 90 degrees. It can be opened and closed. By changing the rotation angle of the butterfly plate, the flow can be controlled step by step.

(4) The opening and closing torque is small, because the butterfly plates on both sides of the shaft are almost equal to the medium, and the direction of the torque is opposite, so the opening and closing is less labor.

(5) Low pressure sealing performance is good, sealing surface materials generally use rubber, plastic, so the sealing performance is good. Limited by the sealing ring material, the range of pressure and working temperature of butterfly valve is small. But the use of hard seal butterfly valve pressure and working temperature range, have been greatly improved.

Working principle of butterfly valve

Butterfly valve is a kind of valve which is opened and closed by rotating the valve stem and driving the disc plate to rotate at the same time. In the cylindrical channel of the butterfly valve body, the disc-shaped disc plate rotates around the axis, mainly rotating the disc plate 90 degrees to control the flow. When the disc plate reaches 90 degrees, the valve is in the fully open state. At the same time, the angle of the disc plate can be changed to adjust the medium flow. It is generally installed in the diameter direction of the pipeline. The butterfly valve and the valve stem have no locking ability. In order to effectively regulate the flow, the worm gear reducer is needed. The butterfly valve with worm gear reducer not only has the self-locking ability, but also can change the operating performance of the butterfly valve and more accurately regulate the medium flow.

Classification of butterfly valves

1. The butterfly valve is classified according to the driving mode;
Electric butterfly valve: electric actuator and butterfly valve body.
Pneumatic butterfly valve: pneumatic actuator and butterfly valve body.
Manual butterfly valve: manual device and butterfly valve body. Hydraulic butterfly valve.

2. Butterfly valves are classified according to their structural form;
Centerline butterfly valve
Eccentric butterfly valve (double eccentric butterfly valve, triple eccentric butterfly valve)

3. Butterfly valves are classified according to the sealing surface;

Application of butterfly valve

Butterfly valves are widely used and suitable for flow regulation. Due to the large pressure loss of the butterfly valve in the pipeline, it is about 3 times that of the gate valve. Therefore, when selecting a butterfly valve, full consideration should be given to the influence of the pressure loss of the piping system, the robustness of the butterfly plate to withstand the pressure of the pipeline medium when it is closed, and the limitation of the elastic valve seat material’s ability to withstand the working temperature at high temperatures. The structure length and overall height of the butterfly valve are relatively small, the opening and closing speed block, has good fluid control characteristics, and its structure principle is most suitable for making large-diameter valves. When the butterfly valve is required to control the flow rate, the most important thing is to correctly select the size and type of the butterfly valve so that it can work more effectively.

Generally, in throttling, regulating control and mud medium, short structure length and fast opening and closing speed are required. For low pressure cut-off, butterfly valve is recommended.

1. In the case of two-position adjustment, narrowing channel, low noise, cavitation and vaporization, a small amount of leakage to the atmosphere, and corrosive media, butterfly valves can be used.
2. When the butterfly valve is used under special conditions such as throttling adjustment or strict sealing requirements, or severe abrasion, low temperature and other operating conditions, it is necessary to use a three-eccentric or double-eccentric special butterfly valve with a specially designed metal seal with an adjustment device.
3. In addition to being used as a program control valve for a large-scale PSA gas separation device, the metal-to-metal seal triple eccentric butterfly valve can also be widely used in petroleum, petrochemical, chemical, metallurgy, electric power and other fields.
